Wanted to share another nice little tool with you called xcompmgr.

With that tool you are able to use composite effects even in the VMWare or if you can't/dont' want to run compiz for another reason.

While trying to get AWN working for me in VMWare I discovered the xcompmgr.

Just install it via

apt-get install xcompmgr
and make sure that it gets started automatically when you login to your session.

Then you can install AWN (Avant Window Navigator) via

apt-get install avant-window-navigator
and start it.


Since I have just my quite customized version of BT4 here it might not work directly with the out of the box version of BT4, I will check on that later today.
