    Default Backtrack 3 screen problem

I installed backtrack 3 to my HD using the shell when in live mode.
I also have Windows and Ubuntu installed.

Here's what my grub looks like

    Code:
    title Backtrack 3
    rootnoverify (hd0, 2)
    kernel /boot/vmlinuz vga=791 root=/deev/sda3 ro
    boot
My machine is a ThinkPad t61p with a nvidia Quatro FX 570m that displays a resolution of 1680 x 1050

When I boot it goes to the prompt where I login with root and pass is toor.
Then however when I do "xconf" and then "startx" the screen goes black and doesn't come back on and I have to restart.
When I don't do xconf it does the same.

    Any help or reasons why?

Download the appropriate driver package from Nvidia website and then install it.it will autoconfigure the xconf accordingly.install it without initiating the X Session.if it still not helps then you have to manually configure xrog.conf and add the resolution and bit-depth & refresh rate according to your display specifications.

before you are playing with the Xserver, start your sshd. So if X fails and you don't get the shell back you are able to login remote, then kill X and try again.

He is not killing X Server & instead of using ssh services one can use fixvesa command and that is enough to get X Services running or always make a backup of xorg.conf file.

In order for sshd to be effective one would have to assume that the OP has another computer from which to log in with. So if one is not available what should the OP do?

Go with what secure_it stated and make sure you do a backup first.

Well I see, that the guy wanted to help. Nothing wrong with that, but it seemed a bit overkill to me.
