    paste output of iwconfig
    for 1st problem
    /etc/init.d/networking start
    /etc/init.d/NetworkManager

and there should be wlan0 interface
use iwconfig to configure it for manage mode

    actually,
    Code:
    /etc/init.d/networking start
    also fixes the second problem.

This card works fine as long as you enable networking.

are you sure you don't see the original post, or are you just looking in the wrong spot? upper right-hand corner of the post is that post's number in the thread; make sure you follow those to #1. just in case, the posts list in ascending order (first post last, last post at the top)
