internet connection problem?!

[SIZE="4"]HI, folks:
it been a long time that i have a problem with back track (and ubuntu) to connect my laptop "HP550" to internet, and i am tired.
ok! the probleme is:
in terminal i type: /etc/init.d/networking start , i get a lat of line,that's ok, i do understand that he get an IP,because when i take look in WICD manager i can see IP:192.168.1.2 and i know that my IP router is :192.168.1.1 , i do a ping to the 2 IP; it's ok,but i can't ping GOOGLE for example, i have no connection.
please, some answer will be great!!!!!

echo nameserver 4.2.2.2 > /etc/resolv.conf

Instead of 4.2.2.2 you could use your ISP's DNS servers

Suggestion - google dns configuration ubuntu & get rid of the big font (it's making me feel small )

I don't reply to PM's regarding BT and it's tools. Everything can be discussed on the forum so the community can benefit from it (if they bother to search).

Now to the subject - your computer doesn't know the names of the sites you'd like to visit (e.g. Google). So it uses DNS servers to resolve names into IP addresses (Google = 209.85.129.104). Now your computer tries to find a DNS server and doesn't know of any. So you let it know with the command above. 4.2.2.2 is a public free dns server. Your ISP has dns servers which are probably configured in your router. So you could also enter your routers IP for the nameserver (192.168.1.1)

I tell you why : also in windows box we have to try several time to obtain access i mean connection internet( unless with us "SmartAX MT882a" )
you see,, do the same think to backtrack 4 or any other's linux box,i try several times,and in each time, i have to write my Username abd the Password ;;;; when the process is terminate i type :"plog" to see if the connection works.,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,,and that's it folks.
now i am asking my self: is that any way to automate this process??
