Modify Live CD

Is there a how to on modifying the LIVE CD to contain other packages or different .conf files?

One way that I know is using:

mount -o loop
cp -R
and then create the ISO again with mkisofs

I tryed using the old:
dir2lzm /mnt/live/memory/changes changes.lzm
Copyd changes.lzm to the LZM dir (I tryed 2 dirs... none work)
and x wouldn't start with the lzm (it would boot I'd login but x would hang.... and I only changed the default keyboard)..... hope it's because it's beta....
