Default Changing TX Power of Alfa 500mw in Windows enviroment ?

Been playing with my Alfa in BT3 and have worked out how to change tx power, as it defaults to setting "5" when ever it is plugged in.
Does anybody know if it's possible to adjust power under XP ?
Also doing "iwconfig" shows my standard atheros card using a tx power of "17", so is there a reason that the Alfa is set to "5".
What do others with the Alfa find is an optimum setting and what antennas have you found to suit well with the ALfa. Im ideallly looking for an increase in range.

Sorry, can't help with the TX power question, but...

Regarding antennas, I've just boought a D-Link ANT24-1201 WLAN Outdoor Antenna, 12dBi, directional yagi. 18 euros ( £15) from Ebay. Connected to my Alfa 500mw and getting some excellent results, can recommend it. It's small too only about 28cm long.

    Good luck! Dave.
