Setting Up Wireless

Hey all, I just bought a Lenovo S10 netbook. One of the main reasons I bought it was to run backtrack. I am currently running BT4 from a USB flash drive. However, my wireless card doesn't seem to be detected by BT. Is there something I am doing wrong? I have started networking but the only device reported by ifconfig is the loopback.

first, run iwconfig, and see if wlan0 (or wifi0) is listed. if not, carry on with lspci, etc. below.

run lspci, and do a google and forum search for your wireless card's compatibility with backtrack 4 final, or linux. if you *still* can't find it, let us know by running lspci and posting the results for your wireless card... and chances are that we'll find it, or something useful for you.

It could be also the older kernel doesn't detect brand new hardware. Try running a live CD of current Ubuntu and see if it is detected. Could also try and update the kernel if you feel up to it.

lspci is pretty handy!

iwconfig lists both lo and eth0 as "no device detected" or something to that effect.....

I had been digging through my manuals and the Lenovo site trying to figure out just which wireless adapter I had beyond "Broadcom," useless, but lspci showed me that I have a BCM4312. Digging on Google it looks like there may be drivers (found some for BT3), but it also seems as if it is not certain that this card will work. Would it be best to just get a better/different card? If so, any reccomendations? (mini PCIe) I'm not opposed to shelling out a little extra for something that'll really perform and last.
