What you do exactly mean with "I have backtrack installed on a usb" Did you use Unebootin or have you installed it permanently?
If its permanent install you need to login "root/toor" and then startx.
I have backtrack installed on a usb. when i boot from the usb, the backtrack terminal appears, but most of the commands ie: startx, airmon-ng, wont work, and dont appear on the help list. I had it working fine on the vm, couldnt find the answer in the forums. im new to backtrack, please help. I installed with Unebootin, an it never asked for a login. It did say somthing about the shell and [ash].
Update: Problem solved. For some odd reason unebootin wasn't installing corectly. Its working now though.

I used Unebootin, and it never asks fo a login screen. it says somthing about a shell and [ASH]. any other details i should give?
startx is what you need, if it says no screen found type in fix-vesa or fixvesa, I cant remember which one.
Both fixvesa and fix-vesa recieved a not found message. Should i, and am i allowed to post a picture of the screen? also sorry about the double post.
