I thought I would add this information to your tutorial if you dont mind
After I installed BackTrack3f onto my USB (with changes), I noticed that Compiz was installed, it even had the Compiz icon on the tray. What was confusing me was the fact that Compiz worked a treat using BT3f Live DVD (The same files and settings on which I used to install onto my USB).
So...I edited my xorg.conf file.
I am using a Dell Latitude D520, it's graphics card is an "Intel GMA 950 Dynamic Video Memory Technology 3.0" - 128MB. So if you have the same Intel chipset and have installed BT3f onto your USB and can not figure out why it seems to be installed and you can not use it.....then here is my xorg.conf for you to copy:
The xorg.conf can be found in /etc/X11/, just:Code:Section "ServerLayout" Identifier "X.org Configured" Screen 0 "Screen0" 0 0 InputDevice "Mouse0" "CorePointer" InputDevice "Keyboard0" "CoreKeyboard" EndSection Section "Files" RgbPath "/usr/share/X11/rgb" ModulePath "/usr/lib/xorg/modules" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/TTF" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/OTF" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/Type1" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/misc" FontPath "/usr/share/fonts/75dpi/:unscaled" EndSection Section "Module" Load "bitmap" Load "ddc" Load "dbe" Load "dri" Load "extmod" Load "freetype" Load "glx" Load "int10" Load "type1" Load "vbe" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Keyboard0" Driver "kbd" EndSection Section "InputDevice" Identifier "Mouse0" Driver "mouse" Option "Protocol" "auto" Option "Device" "/dev/input/mice" Option "ZAxisMapping" "4 5 6 7" EndSection Section "Monitor" Identifier "Monitor0" VendorName "SEC" ModelName "4758" EndSection Section "Device" Identifier "Card0" Driver "intel" VendorName "Intel Corporation" BoardName "Mobile 945GM/GMS/940GML Express Integrated Graphics Controller" BusID "PCI:0:2:0" Option "XAANoOffscreenPixmaps" "true" EndSection Section "Screen" Identifier "Screen0" Device "Card0" Monitor "Monitor0" SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 1 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 4 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 8 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 15 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 16 EndSubSection SubSection "Display" Viewport 0 0 Depth 24 EndSubSection EndSection Section "DRI" Mode 0666 EndSection Section "Extensions" Option "Composite" "true" EndSection
I hope this helps someone. Not meaning to hijack your thread mate, just thought it would make perfect sense to put this information in this thread. You know? Keep the forum tidy and all thatCode:nano /etc/X11/xorg.conf![]()
