proxy configuratuion error persists...

pinging is not restricted by the admin.
i access internet using the browser by setting
i use mozilla firefox
HTTP PROXY: proxy(dot)whatever(dot)whatever
port:8080

please show me the value of the env variable HTTP_PROXY and any other settings i should make

I though you needed to put export at the beginning? e.g.

$export http_proxy="http://a.b.c.dort"

PS - case sensitive !
