I am having the same issue with both BackTrack 3 and 4 on my HP Pavillion DV6. It will not go into graphical mode and claims that my bios may be broken. I would be interested if anyone has figured out a way around this.
I have tried both Backtrack 4 pre-final and final versions with this laptop and it's saying that the BIOS might be broken. After loading, everything works fine except for Airodump-ng. When I use the command 'Airodump-ng wlan0', it says something like 'bash: no such file exists'. I did check the correct name for the wifi card using 'Airmon-ng'. If anyone needs more information about this problem, please let me know.

I triedt booting it via virtualbox 3.1.4 and it also wont boot graphical interface but it gives me different error, when loading hardware drivers it asks me to upgrade bios or use force_addr=0xaddr
I installed latest bios updates for my laptop and all stayed the same, can anyone help pls i was using bt 3 on my old laptop and i liked it alot.
Using VMWareWorkstation and BT4-VMWare on a HP Pavillion DV6-1310sv I was able to run the graphical interface of BT4. Problem is I cannot (still) use the on-board WiFi LAN (broadcom 802.11b/g). I 'll try harder and will share the info
