Default need help with backtrack 3

I'm using windows xp at the moment and i want to install backtrack 3 in a dual boot configuration. I have found a guide where someone has installed backtrack 3 in a dual boot configuration but i cannot get it to work like they did as they used qtparted but when i look for it i cannot find it so i'm wondering if they was using backtrack 2. Does anyone know for a video or another guide on how to install backtrack 3.

Where did you find the guide? Using google? Using the forum search?

Why using qtparted? Just use fdisk, it's all you need.

Are you sure that BT is the right distro for you to use? Which purpose do you want to use it for?

Just use the search function there are some really decent guides floating around on here for BT3 dual boot or have a look in the wiki.

Also why do you want to use BT?

    Default not so easy

Maybe this is not so easy for you.

Many WinXP installations formatted using NTFS. This is not easy to resize but is possible if the associated program ntfsresize is available.

You are advised to backup all your data before proceeding.

Further, you might try Knoppix and use that to attempt a dual boot before proceeding further with an installation of bt. It has qtparted which can call ntfsresize if necessary.

You might continue to use bt as a LiveCD and explore the use of its tools and gain experience before committing to a hard-disk installation.

I think the qtparted live cd can resize ntfs.
Of course, if you really wanted to have some fun, go to Wal-Mart late at night and ask the greeter if they could help you find trashbags, roll of carpet, rope, quicklime, clorox and a shovel. See if they give you any strange looks. --Streaker69

    OK

You need to download another (new) iso.

You need to download Knoppix or Gparted.

    They are both LiveCDs.

If you burn a CD and take care to follow instructions you can partition your hard drive.

You should backup all data within your WinXP directories, first. You should do that because any errors in partitioning or in creating a new mbr could result in data and/or system loss.

In such a case you will need to reinstall WinXP and your data.

You do have the installation disk I presume? You don't really need to answer that.

I hope you have a jolly nice weekend!
