    Hello together,

i bought an new AWUS036H REV:01 1000mW and try so set it in the highpower mode with
    Code:
    # iwpriv wlan1 highpower 1
    but i get this Error:
    Code:
    wlan1 no private ioctls.
The Wlan Controller itself works fine under BT4 Final (HDD install) with wicd for example but the Rang per default is not the best. So i will try the highpower mode and set the txpower to a higher level. I get no Error with:
    Code:
    iwconfig wlan1 txpower 27
and the iwconfig output shows TX-Power=27 dBm

More than 27 doesn´t work ? I read a post here (http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...2.html#post618) and they talked about 35 dBm with my new REV.01 1000mW
    Code:
    bt4:~# iwconfig wlan1 txpower 30
Error for wireless request "Set Tx Power" (8B26) :
SET failed on device wlan1 ; Invalid argument.
    Thanks for any help!

Its because BT4 comes with the mac80211 drivers pre installed & patched for better performance/injection. iwpriv works with iee.. drivers

If you want to play around with your power levels you will have to do the following

    Code:
     iw reg set <alpha code>
try some codes from here ISO 3166-1 alpha-2 - Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

i use US and i get 27dbm, you are probably already on US at the moment, i am not sure which country code gives the highest output but if you do decide to test this please reply with your results.

    I have it!
To set the AWUS036H into the 30dBm mode use
    Code:
    # iw reg set BO
    for Bolivia.

    Here it is
    Code:
    mon0 IEEE 802.11bg Mode:Monitor Frequency:2.432 GHz Tx-Power=30 dBm
              Retry min limit:7 RTS thr:off Fragment thr:off
              Encryption key:off
              Power Management:off
              Link Quality:0 Signal level:0 Noise level:0
Rx invalid nwid:0 Rx invalid crypt:0 Rx invalid frag:0
              Tx excessive retries:0 Invalid misc:0 Missed beacon:0
ASUS UL30A / BT5 x64 with KDE on HDD of course!

Doe any of you know how to increase the packet injection rate? I saw that it was doing 500pps. I wish I had a screenshot of it, I'll try to get it next time I run it.

500 is what i usually get & my understanding is that its a very good rate as Encrypted said.

Some people have luck with this right out of the box, others (like me) have nothing but trouble. Maybe there is an issue with firmware on the AWUS036H.

cr1p70 & others who have been successful, did you ever update the firmware on your 036H or did you leave it stock?

If you upgraded it, did you update it from the mini-CD or from the internet?

How are you running BT4? VMware/HDD/USB/Live?
