The led's work, and when i start the computer it glows yellow, when i press the eject button it pops open. But on my (xp) computer the drive isn't there nor can i find it in the device manager. Whats happening?

If it previously worked in this system, then it's probably dead. If it hasn't previously worked, then you probably have a master/slave jumper incorrectly set.

So if i buy a new one..it should work?
Maybe, as long as the IDE interface on the motherboard isn't dead as well. Pull the drive and plug it into another system and see if it works. If it doesn't then it's dead.

i bet its the connection, everytime i push the drive in more the light on the drive flashes.
