    Question ifconfig down [interface] problem?

Whenever I try to input the command ifconfig down [interface] and I put in the interface name it gives me an error that device not found. I know my wireless card is compatible its a Broadcom 4311. When I type in iwconfig to get it's info I get
    Interface Device Driver
    eth1 Broadcom -----

also I'm runnin on a Compaq Presario C500

Am I putting in the wrong interface name?

    Thanks in advance
