    Default setting up a lab

    hi guys,
i just installed damn vulnerable linux on a virtual machine to practice my pentesting skills. Unfortunately it doesnt come with a ftp or dns servers.
I want to install those 2 servers,
my question is which one do you recommend ? i want to pick one that is vulnerable, or should i install a patched one but give it a bad configuration??

    thanks in advance,
    regards

Go with something like a bootstrapped Debian (something that is easy to install packages and doesn't have SELinux, AppArmor, etc running out of the box).

I'd be wiling to bet 2 to 1 that it'll have a somewhat _bad_ configuration once you actually get it running.

You might be interested in trying out the prebuilt labs at "forums.heorot.net" You can download the DE-Ice level one, level two & pWnOS. They have directions on how to build your own as well.
