Default Airodump-ng doesn't detect wireless networks

I need some help troubleshooting airodump-ng. I'm running the aircrack-ng suite on an Eeepc running Ubuntu 8.04.1.

When I run kismet, it detects several local wireless networks. But airodump-ng detects nothing at all. This is despite the fact that I've killed the processes identified by airmon-ng check as potential problems.

The thing is, airodump-ng was working just fine when I first installed it, a fortnight ago. This problem appeared in the past week. And, as a complete aircrack-ng newbie, I don't have the first idea of how to go about troubleshooting this problem.

    All help gratefully received!
