Backtrack 4 VMware Install issue

OK so while im installing the VMware version of backtrack 4.

Im following the guide on the how to's... Not that i really need it, just making sure I don't
miss anything...

Well when it came to selecting the partition i Chose "Guided - Use entire disk"...
then clicked install. It starts up the partitioner and viola! I get a lovely pop-up menu saying this.

The installer needs to commit changes to partition tables, but cannot do so because partitions on the following mount points could not be unmounted:

/

Please close any applications using these mount points.

Would you like the installer to try to unmount these partitions again?

All i can do is click continue and go back >_> Both bring me back to the page to select my partition.

Any ideas?

Sounds like you have something mounted on the root partition. That's probably why the partition tool is not letting you proceed - it's needs access to the unmounted partition before it can write any changes (which, if you're installing BT4 to hard disk/vm, is kinda required).

If you follow the HowTo instructions step-by-step, you shouldn't run into this issue. Choose "Linux>Ubuntu" as the the guest OS when creating the initial VMWare machine, and make sure your new machine meets the prerequisites for BT4.

same problem here.

i loaded the vmware image with virtualbox and then i wanted to install backtrack to an (encrypted) usb stick.

If you read my post /\ the reason is obvious but i got no answer if it is really not possible to install backtrack anywhere out of the vmware image.

But as it seems like it's only possible to make a persistent installation out of the live disk. **** i have no cd/dvd-drive.

You can't do a partitioning in BackTrack VMWare edition. Is pre installed.
There are other posts which cover this topic, including answers from the developers.
But for me this is the best BT edition for my PC, regarding Internet access.

That is an answer i can work with. So it is NOT possible to partition a usb drive with the installer in the vmware image.

That's all i need to know. Thx.

So i have to borrow myself a dvd drive and try it with a live disc.

Edit: Another User in this thread: http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...tml#post175439 says that it IS possible to use the vmware and install BT on USB with it
