for some days backtrack was working fine. but now its giving the error whenver i am using the apt command it says apt command not found. How to fix it?

Ok. i typed this "apt -get update" and also tried apt -get install" but i got the same error message:
apt command can be found in following packages
"java jkd 5.0
java jdk 6.0
and 2 more options"
at the end the error was bash:apt command not found
error message:

I seen that to, NO SPACE in (apt-get) then a space update/upgrade
