    Unhappy problem installing BT3

    i have laptop dell latitude c400
    without cd rom,fllopy drive, could not boot from USB(i have install the latest bios update avelayble)
    so to install bt3 i've do this:
    attach the laptop HDD to another PC
    and boot from BT3 live CD
    and follow the instraction to instal bt3 from shell

    i got this error wihle bt3 booting :

    md: Autodetecting RAID arrays.
    md: autorun...
    md: ... autorun done.
    VFS: connat open root device "802" or unknow-block(8,2)
    please append a correct "root=" boot option
    kernel panic - not syncing: VFS: Unable to mount root fs on unknown-block(8,2)

    so i repeat the same prossec to install bt2 but from bt installer an the same error again

    any help to get bt working on my laptop

    problem is with your boot loader configuration.properly edit lilo.conf file
    nano /etc/lilo.conf

    image ="/boot/vmlinuz
    root=/dev/hda1 #change with your root(/)partition
    label=BackTrack3
    read-only

    #based on your installation.if you have winblows partitions too put them #into
    other=/dev/hdc4 #partition where winblows is installed
    Label = "winblows"
    table = /dev/hda #primary partition of windows HDD e.g. C drive

    lilo-v
    init 6
    #you have done
    find good tutorials on the forum.there are lots of and follow them exactly.

    Here should work, because it works for me,

    Make sure attach the hdd in same ide slot, in my area, in the pc, my notebook hdd was at sdd while i put back to my notebook its become sda, so all fstab, lilo etc got wrong hdd mapping and have same error like yours, but than i reinstall at sda in the pc and put back to the notebook, in the same ide controller, (sda) there no error comes up, so, in your prob, may be, you put your hdd notebook in slave ide controler, but in your notebook become master, re check pls

    thing that's my problem, i'v connect my laptop HDD to my PC throught USB to IDE cable, and lilo read it as sda but when reblug it to laptop and boot to BT3 it reads it as hda
    i thing that's exactly my problem but i'v edit lilo.conf and the same error again
    don't know what to do
    did i need to run "lilo -v" after avry adit to lilo.conf ?

    YES you need to apply changes using that.
