Default How does backtrack get karma and aircrack-ng to play nice

I have an atheros card and am trying to get aircrack-ng and karma working on my general use Archlinux installation. I can only get one or another to work. The aircrack-ng suite works great with the r3745 revision of the madwifi-ng drivers but karma needs a patch that does not support this version. The digininja madwifi-ng karma patch is recommends version 0.9.3.3.

How does backtrack get these to tools work together nicely?
