Default Incorrect resoltuion Acer Aspire One 532H

    Hi,

I bought an Acer Aspire One 532h-2268 (cheapo from Costco, not on HCL ofc). The problem that I am running into is when I boot backtrack4 final and try to start the xserver.

    I get this:

    Fatal server error:
    no screens found
    giving up

The annoying part is that if I hook up an external monitor I can start the x server fine. If I try to start it with the onboard display (running at 1024x600) xorg freaks out and fails to start. I need to run "fixvesa" for the xserver to start successfully. the only problem is that I only get 800x600, not 1024x600. I tried editing xorg.conf manually, but I'm pretty sure I'm not doing it correctly, maybe it's due to me booting off of a liveusb instead of a hard drive install.

    Any ideas about this?

    Thanks.

    Thanks.

According to the Acer website that series has an "Intel Graphics Media Accelerator 3150 (Intel GMA 3150)."

I'll run the command in your post when I get home and edit the results here.

    Results:
    Code:
00:02.0 VGA compatible controller [0300]: Intel Corporation Pineview Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:a011]
Subsystem: Acer Incorporated [ALI] Device [1025:0349]
Flags: bus master, fast devsel, latency 0, IRQ 11
    	Memory at 58180000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
    	I/O ports at 60c0 [size=8]

00:02.1 Display controller [0380]: Intel Corporation Pineview Integrated Graphics Controller [8086:a012]

    	Memory at 58100000 (32-bit, non-prefetchable) [size=512K]
Capabilities: [d0] Power Management version 2
EDIT: I'm guessing it's a driver thing, since the only resolutions that the "monitor" supposedly supports are 640x480 and 800x600. Ubuntu 9.10 and Windows 7 work fine at the native resolution. I guess I'll just have to put up with an 800 x 600 screen.

Do you think that installing "hardware drivers" fix the resolution problem?

since xserver-xorg-video-intel is already installed and works on bt4, i recommend that you should first try to configure your /etc/X11/xorg.conf file accordingly, of course making a backup in case of epic failure. lots on google for xorg.conf stuff.

i ran little over half a dozen searches, and in all of them, and the two posts about this computer came up, both from the hcl and beginners forums. apparently you're the only person on the internets (as far as i looked) who uses bt4 with his aao who has a problem

something that may be worth your while is this page, because it looks to me like you're going to have to compile a driver for it, if attempting to configure your xserver doesn't work.

Thanks for the info. I suppose I should be glad that I'm the only one on the interwebz that has the problem. I spent a long time googling for answers and mostly ended up at dead ends. If I get it working, I'll let y'all know.

I have the same problem. AGP: ATI Radeon HD 2400, and display: 17". I tried to run it on 800x600, but it shows only black screen. Have you found something yet?

I have this problem as well because I have the same intel graphics chip, in fact this seems to be a pretty common problem because the intel 3150 is a pretty standard chip on a lot of netbooks.

I did run across the following site that seems to supply intel linux drivers. I'm not sure if this helps at all because I haven't been able to take a long look at them.

    Intel Linux Graphics

On this site you can find some of the newer intel graphis drivers in tar.gz form but being kina new to slackware I'm not sure exactly how to install this. I've tried ./configure;make;make install, which of I can only get the ./configure step to work correctly, the make step tells me no make file present.
