I have had this working in the past on my laptop with an atheros based card, I am using Cisco this time
I have
eth0 (my wifi cisco aironet 340 pci)
eth1 (wired lan connection)
wifi0 (my wifi cisco aironet 340 pci)
I have been following exploitz video which I have used successfully in the past.
I have been doing the following
bt ~ # airmon-ng stop eth0
Interface Chipset Driver
eth0 UNKNOWN airo (monitor mode disabled)
bt ~ # airmon-ng start wifi0
Interface Chipset Driver
eth0 UNKNOWN airo
bt ~ # airodump-ng wifi0

I have been trying different variants of airmon-ng, i.e. airmon-ng eth0. I only get 'monitor mode enabled/disabled' when doing airmon-ng eth0 instead if wifi0.
Results from airodump-ng wifi0 states [wifi0 reset to monitor mode],
help appreciated
Try this....
iwconfig eth0 mode monitor
I have tried that and although it takes the command, upon doing a iwconfig the mode indicates it is still set to managed.
Forgive me if this sounds stupid but when I do a iwconfig my essid is set to 'tsuami' is this a default essid built into the iso or have I picked up a local wifi
