Default BT3 in VMware Player on Linux, USB Dongle Issue

    All,

I've got the newest version of VMware Player installed and I downloaded the VMWare image for Backtrack 3. I am using Edimax USB 7318 for my wireless needs. Backtrack starts up fine and the device is shown in the VMware menu. I can put the card into monitor mode from Backtrack, but when I start up airodump-ng, it does not work. The error message said that the network has been disconnected. I have verified that I can put the card into monitor mode and capture packets successfully booting straight from the LiveCD. I know the particular work around I have to do for Edimax. Obviously I am missing something because of the VMware. Do I have to put the card in monitor mode from my base Linux system? Do I need to load the rt73 driver and all of that (from my base Linux system)? Any advice would be appreciated.

    Regards,

You have to put the device up first via ifconfig rausb0 up first before you can set it to monitor mode.
