Blurry screen when adjusting screen resolution

I have a laptop with BT4 R1 , an acer aspire with a ATI mobility radeon. When i try to change my screen resolution the text is blurry and the colors strange. How can i fix this?

This is not a Backtrack issue, most laptops are meant to run at their native resolution, if you change it text becomes blurry.
