Default BT3 Airodump and Kismet cannot see connected clients

    Hi all

I'm new here but the forums seem extremely resourceful.
I'm a complete noob to Linux and Backtrack and the most I've learnt is by looking through these forums.

I viewed a post about how to crack WEP. I've been looking around for ages to find the link again so you could see which one but cannot find it again.

    My problem is this.....

I'm testing this on my own AP with WEP encryption and fire up Kismet. I lock on to the target AP by typing "L"

    I then run the command...
    airodump-ng -w /home/capture -c 11 wlan0

This creates the capture file and starts off airodump gathering "Beacons".
However despite checking that my study PC is connected by accessing the router and checking the wireless clients connected, airodump does not display any clients being connected and hence it is not able to gather communication between the access point and my desktop pc. This means that when i run the command at the end of the tutorial...

    aircrack-ng -f 4 -m [mac address of AP] -n 64 /home/capture-01.cap

I receive the error that there was no data collected. However, the capture file does exist

Please could someone help. It would be very much appreciated

    Many Thanks

I'm not sure if running kismet while using airodump-ng could cause any problems, but it's possible.
Try doing something on one of the pc's connected to the target network to generate some traffic.
