    Hi!
Just thought I'd say hello to everyone in this community and introduce myself. I'm 19,currently studying Computer Science in England and looking to learn new tricks, I'm very interested in cryptography and running time analysis of programs. I dabble in a fair few language but specialise in Java.

    Loldawson

p.s. I appologise if this should have been in the newbie area!

I'm a second year at Durham University. Don't worry, when you get there everyone is treated as if they have never used a computer before!

    Default need quick help....

I am trying to copy somehting off after I ran Auditor off a cd.

I have some files I need to copy but cant get anything to work.

Tryed plugging in a USB floppy... cant find it

Tryed plugging in a USB hard drive, cant access it. but I see it under
the qtparted. I cant find the place to open it anywhere.

Ive tryed dhcpx but it says it cant find a server... Even though
ive set it up on two different ones.

I set a static IP and can ping my other PC, but can get any network or internet from my other windows pc with internet connection sharing... its liike 5K worth of files... what do i DO!!!!! I really dont want to lose them if I reboot

First what does any of your post have to do with the thread itself?
Second you should probably give up the Auditor for Back|Track 3 since this is the supported version and Auditor is not supported anymore.
This will pay dividends latter on.
    Good luck
To be successful here you should read all of the following.

If you are new to Back|Track
    Back|Track Wiki
Failure to do so will probably get your threads deleted or worse.

Sorry where in Archangel.ameals post was he being "Hostile"?
although he did have reason to be.

    1. you posted in a totally unrelated thread

    2. your asking about unsupported software

All he did was point out your mistakes, and offer you some advice.

I hope people are always that "hostile" with me!!

Cheers dude thats comforting to know. Although sometimes it is better to be thrown in at the deep end.

What are you doing with Computer science? I am taking it with artificial intelligence. Is there anything i should be doing to prepare? I am reading all i can at the moment. Is there anything Specific you think I would find useful to know learn about in advance?

    Thanks for your help.

It all depends on the course content... There are two different ways to teach compsci, the first is the theory with programming to support it and the second is mainly programming with theory thrown in.

Two books I would deffinetly recommend are:
Discrete Mathematics and its applications; Kenneth Rosen.
Introduction to Algorithms; Thomas H Cormen.

The first should get your maths up to speed. Having a rough understand of predicate logic and graph theory will help you no ends! The second covers the main 'core' of compsci, sorting algorithms, time complexity and running time etc. All really important fundamental stuff, but you have your whole first year to learn it so have a read but enjoy your summer!

    cheers for the tips loldawson.

I have got myself a copy of the two books you recommended. Gonna have a good look at them over the next week or so. Not studied for twelve years now(apart from what i have taught myself) so just want to get a head start.

bit nervous to be honest. I'm sure i will be fine, but i would rather be prepared.
