I'm trying to install BT3 on my eee pc and after I boot om my USB device(I tried 4 different devices) it says to me

and I didn't burn it, as I said I used a usb memory key

I get the same error. I have redownloaded the same (USB version) .rar from several different sources and am attempting to install it to my USB drive.
I get the errors just after the module /base/lib.lzm is inserted:
Cannot read module data. corrupted download? (several times)
cp: cannot remove 'union/usr/lib': no such file or dir
* creating /etc/fstab
* changing root directory...
Fatal error occured - Can't find executable init command
* Something went wrong and we can't continue. This should never happen
I didnt use any download manager other than Opera to download the .rar, and am in the process of getting it via the torrent to see if that makes any difference. For what it's worth, the md5 on the file checks out ok.
Any ideas?
Give the torrent a try.
Are you getting the download from the wiki links?

And of course to verify the md5sum make sure you are saving the download using the default name.

Well, as the title says, still nothing.
I got the files from remote-exploit.org/backtrack_download.html, rather than from the wiki, there isnt any difference, is there?
I downloaded the LiveCD, the md5 matches the one on the site, I burned it to CD and that boots perfectly.
I then tried to install it to my USB drive, and got the same error as before.
I checked out the partition tables for the usb drive, and they looked rather strange (something about the partition having no end), so I deleted it and re-created a 3gb FAT32 to put the live install onto, and a 1gb ext3 to save changes to.
Still the same error.
I`m now going to try using the BT Installer from the LiveCD to create a "real" installation on my usb drive
I refuse to believe that its a problem with the usb stick because I had it working once off there, then tried to install the "USB version", at which point - FAIL!
Any bright ideas?
When you say "usb drive" are you attempting a "usb stick" install, via the usual copying of the two dir's (bt & boot) and running the script to make it bootable?
Or, are you attempting a "full" or "live" install, via the built-in GUI installer, onto an external usb hdd?
You mention doing an "install to usb drive" and also mention a "usb stick" so I'm not sure if you are attempting both of the above methods?
If it's a USB stick, don't use the GUI installer, but rather use the "usb version" of BT and the method of simply copying the BT & boot dir's, etc........

I`m attempting to install it to a usb flash drive/stick.
I have tried several methods: copying the LiveCD directories (BT3 and boot) to the usb stick and running bootinst.bat, and the same for the USB version. Each time, I get the same error.
The "real" install of the USB version via the gui is still plodding along, I'll give it a try once its finished.

I'm still not having any sucess with this. I have tried installing (both via the supplied install .bat/.sh and the USB Installer created by Shaman Virtuel) the LiveCD and the USB version to two different USB flash drives, and both produce the same results. I'm wondering now if it is some freaky hardware issue, but my Dell Inspiron 1501 is hardly exotic hardware!
Has anyone got any ideas? Did the original poster manage to get the problem solved?

Well it comes from they way you build your kurnel (obviously if it's you that build it)
Else I will send you a working version of slax using a 2.6.24.5 kernel !!!
