Bootable USB Issues

Hey guys,

just wanted to confirm if there was an issue with my download or otherwise

when attempting to make my sandisk u3 cruizer titanium bootable as per the guide provided in the download i get the following issue

p-rock@P-Rocks-laptop:/media/disk-1/boot$ sh bootinst.sh
bootinst.sh: 22: Syntax error: Bad substitution
p-rock@P-Rocks-laptop:/media/disk-1/boot$

(attempting to do this from Ubuntu 7.10)

i have attempted a search with no luck possibly using the incorrect search terms...

any help would be appreciated!

Just a wild guess, but hey, ya never know. The U3 comes with a "CD" drive on it. Do you think that is somehow coming in the way.

Already taken care of - no U3 gunk is left on this drive at all - only one partition

I have the same problem using both ubuntu and backtrack 2 final to try to make a bootable bt3 usb stick. Google brought up a fix or two but neither worked.

Wrong section. Maybe if you did a little reading you would find the answer. This thread is the bug AND FIX section. There are more than enough guides on here for a usb install and I even made a movie some where.

It's not really a reading issue, the instructions are right in the archive file. It is an issue of the bootinst.sh script not properly executing on Ubuntu (A very popular distro) or Backtrack 2 final (If it doesn't work on there then there is obviously something wrong with the script). So we have 2 people, 3 different Linux distros (I use an earlier version of ubuntu) with the same problem.
That is a BUG

if thats the guide your referring to its of no use to me as im using ubuntu

ignore the fact that its a U3 drive - i merely supplied as much info as possible here and seemed to have confused the question

the U3 gunk has been removed already a long time ago using the same software so this would not be the issue.

You probably are not root or do not have write access to your drive. The script works fine.I've used it many times.

Try and execute in Windows. Im pretty sure thatl do the trick
