OK so i have had BT3 running on my think pad for a while now with no problems...the only thing is that the Netgear ubs dongle cant really pic-up on Ap's that are far away. so wat i did was pop my Bt3 live cd into my desktop pc that has a netgear WPN311 wifi card and a hi gain antenna.
Tthe problem im having is when i go to put the card into monitor mode i get this

i try to open up Kismet but nothing happens..............
can this card be used? if so can some one tell me how to configure it?
I'm a newbie 7/11 but I have a WPN311 card too in bt3 and it's working ok for me (I think). I get the same thing with kismet but then I don't worry about that, I have no desire to use kismet.
In a terminal window type:
airodump-ng ath0
and if it starts to fill with nearby AP's then the card is working fine.
Have the two of you edited the source in kismet.conf file to match your wireless card? This is something that everyone needs to do in order to get it to work, as there is no source specified by default.

tron I tried the edit thing with kismet.conf and found it confusing, I didn't see card info in there as the instructions said I would, and also kismet.conf was not at the location it said.
The file you want to edit is the following /usr/local/etc/kismet.conf and the part that you will want to edit is:
Simply replace the part in red with your own chipset and card information.Code:source=none,none,addme
