I put the updated drivers in the same location, but when I went to make, I received the "no such file or directory"- and then tried the code line you suggested in this event, but received another "no such file or directory." Thank you for any help that you can give.
sorry this won't work with BT3. You might wanna try looking for a compat-wireless slax module.

I did all the steps from the tut, but airmon-ng wont show any interface as well as iwconfig. I blacklisted the old driver und fixed airmon-ng to use ar9170usb driver. What could be the problem I'm facing?
    On startup an error occurs:
    usb 1-1: device descriptor read/64, error -71
does this has something to do that my WNDA3100(v1) is not working? how can i fix this?
You can try booting backtrack fully before you plug in your adapter. also instead of just running
    Code:
    modprobe ar9170usb
    try
    Code:
    modprobe -a ath cfg80211 mac80211 ar9170usb
Still not working? Try switching to a 32-bit host instead of a 64-bit(Vista x64)

Hello, again. So I ditched trying to use backtrack 3, and am now using backtrack 4 beta vmware with my wn111v2. I run 'make' fine, but when I 'make install', I get this at the end:

    make[1]: Leaving directory `/usr/src/linux-source-2.6.28.1'
    Updating Ubuntu's initramfs for 2.6.31-wl under /boot/ ...
    Cannot find /lib/modules/2.6.31-wl
Will now run update-grub to ensure grub will find the new initramfs ...
Searching for GRUB installation directory ...
No GRUB directory found. To create a template run 'mkdir /boot/grub' first. To install grub, install it manually or try the 'grub-install' command. ### Warning, grub-install is used to change your MBR. ###

    make: *** [install-modules] Error 1

Should I try using a different 'compat'? Does it matter that I'm using BT4 Beta instead of Final? Thank you.

Is this update work only with hard drive BT4 installation or is it wotking with LiveCD distributions as well? because after rebooting you probably lose the saved data

Why not just use BT4 final?

Yup, if you reboot the LiveCD your gonna loose the changes. instead of rebooting you can try
    Code:
    modprobe -a ath ar9170usb cfg80211 mac80211

You're good man, this worked like magic from the LiveCD. I had my Chipset unknown but you already posted the answer to that. I did try to run it but it seams that aireplay won't work: it seems that is getting deauthentificated/disassociated packets from the source MAC (adapter's MAC), rendering aireplay useless. But in the other hand, this belongs to another thread, you made your point.
    Thanks again!

Thanks for a great informative post. Nice to see other people are helping each other.

I was hoping maybe you can look at my codes and see what I need to do to fix this connection problem. I still can't connect using your how-to steps.

I also have try connecting using Ndiswrapper and it work using my CD-ROM drivers that came with the D-link DWA160 A2. The problem is that Ndiswrapper don't support monitor mode.

    Thanks you again

    ,
Are you running BT4 from a hard drive, usb, vmware, or liveCD?

    ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

To get the adapter working (the easy way)when running BackTrack from a liveCD:

Use the BT4 R1 iso to make the liveCD
after you boot up and get the command prompt, enter:
    Code:
    modprobe -r arusb_lnx
    modprobe -a ath ar9170usb cfg80211 mac80211
then unplug your adapter and then plug it back in.
    then
    Code:
    startx
you should now have a fully functioning wireless adapter
