you probably should be using wifi0 not wifi.
check by typing airmon-ng or iwconfig.
I place all my data for BackTrack on a thumbdrive to carry both the Live CD
and the data for use in other computers. In this thumbdrive I have the
aircrack-ng program and the madwifi drivers for my Netgear WG511T card.
Well while messing with the program I had entered
airmon-ng stop ath0
airmon-ng start wifi0 6
iwconfig
this would normally have worked but this time I got the following message
bt ~ # iwconfig
lo no wireless extensions.
eth0 no wireless extensions.
Then I decided (perhaps idiotically) to restard my computer since Live CDs
don't save settings as a quick fix to the problem. Booting up BackTrack
the program wouldn't read the card again.
Confused I decided to reinstall the madwifi drivers which I did but this did
nothing. The same message would come up when iwconfig was entered
and my Wireless Assistant told me that no wireless card could be read.
What have I done wrong...
you probably should be using wifi0 not wifi.

Wrong place
Wrong time
Wrong woman
Excuse me that was a typo,
and yes I did check airmon-ng but
there's nothing that pops up telling
me that there's any sort of device.
It's as though the card is inexistent.
Yo,
You shouldn't have to install any drivers to get the Wg511T working on BT3 Beta. I'm guessing that you are using BT2 because of where you posted. If after you installed the drivers your card began to fail that might be the problem. I would suggest just using the default drivers from BT3 Beta and follow the directions @ the BT wiki for getting your card into monitor mode if thats what you are trying to do.( I can't tell from your explanation). Below are the directions. If you can't get this card to run in Monitor mode try the following:
BT ~#airmon-ng stop ath0
BT ~#airmon-ng start wifi0
Then run iwconfig and check if ath0 is in Monitor mode. If it still isn't, try the following:
BT ~#ifconfig ath0 down
BT ~#airmon-ng start ath1
wifi0 should now parent ath1, and ath1 should be in Monitor mode. If it isn't, try:
BT ~#airmon-ng start wifi0
am having problems with the WG511 V2 card. Can anyone advise on how to get it to work?
the driver seems to have been curropted. I'll enter the wireless card in my computer and boot on Windows XP and then windows will crash
with the message that there's a curropted driver. This will happen whenever I enter the WG511T card.
Even more interesting when I have the oppertunity to deinstall the driver and enter it back in
the original message should say Netgear WT511G card entered but this message does not come up
rather the read card is simply ethernet then it asks me to install the method either online or through a CD (normal procedure).
Once I put in the installation CD the ethernet driver that the installed hardward is asking for
isn't read as compatiable to the CD thus I install the CD by itself this allows the card to be read
but the driver is curropt and either windows crashes or the Netgear Net Terminal works but
scanning wirless networks does not.
Running the card on BackTrack again doesn't allow it to be read thus there must be a driver software
problem within the card... how the hell do I fix that?
The suggestion of using the installation CD will not work I've tried it six times before but it wouldn't work.
So yes... not a problem within BackTrack commands.
I'm Lost...... This is a Backtrack forum, not windows...
If your trying to use the card in windows, download the windows drivers & RTFM sorry no offence....... If your having problems with it in Backtrack..... then post your outcome here so you can get assistance on your errors
No offense taken.
The Windows XP test was simply a test to see if it was the wireless card or the failure to load a proper driver which should support the deduction that there's a problem with the wireless card not my command entering (which it was).
You see to state it more simply
WG511T ath0 Driver Does Not Load on BackTrack ---> WG511T Card is Not Read on Windows = There's a problem with the wireless card.
A simple method of deduction to support the claim that it was indeed not my entering of commands that caused the problem rather the wireless card.
To respond to your problem within BackTrack (if necessary to be repeated)
I've entered
There's a problem with the wireless card on BackTrack but now I've deduced that there's a problem with the actual wireless card. If assistance can be supplied it would be appreciated and if more explination is needed to supply assistance then ask.Code:airmon-ng stop ath0 airmon-ng start wifi0 6 bt ~ # iwconfig lo no wireless extensions. eth0 no wireless extensions.
Thanks.
