Thread: edit files on hd from live cd

    Default edit files on hd from live cd

    i have 2 sata hard drive connected to my pc. i boot up the bt3 cd. i can see both drives but i am unable to copy or cut files from one drive to another.


    how can i over come this?

    ok so i am trying to take some music files from one of my Hard drives and put them on another drive. i cut the files from one drive and try to paste them on the other drive. it says


    "could not write to/my documents"



    basicaly i cant modify any files on either hard drives.

    *Is this through the GUI or via the CL? If you've tried one, did you try the other? Is the failure consistent on both?
    *What types of formats are the disks?
    *Is the file format(s) supported for write operation?
    *Did you mount the disks?
    *Did you mount the disks as read/write or read only?
    *Did you mount the disks with the correct file type?

    all i did was connect both drive to my pc using sata cables they both show up in my storage media folder. formated file system is what ever vista is

    Let's see if I have this right: You formatted the disks under Vista, and don't know what file format you used? Now you're trying to read and write those under BT3? If so, that's your problem. You probably used the NTFS file system, and the disks are now mounted as read-only under Backtrack 3.

    You'll have to force a mount for the drives using ntfs-3g.
