Default Need help with my first time loading up my wireless card driver

I have an internal intel 4965 abg draft-n card. I wanted a more serious wireless card, so I bought the express card version of the Ubiquiti SRC 300. I went to the madwifi.org and downloaded the madwifi-0.9.4.tar.gz.

I then downloaded the kernel source (kernel.lzm) from wiki.remote-exploit.org

    I then ran lzm2dir kernel.lzm /

    Then I tar -xvf madwifi-0.9.4.tar.gz Desktop/

I then went into the extracted madwifi root directory and ran

    make KERNELPATH=/usr/src/linux-2.6.21.5
which installed the modules to my library.

I then inserted my Ubiquiti SRC 300 express card into the express slot.

    I ran modprobe ath_pci

Then I ran iwconfig and ifconfig
seems like my old ethernet card and intel 4965 wireless card are there, but no atheros card. However, there is an interface called ".0" right under eth0. I don't remember seeing that before, is that the new wireless card?

I ran lsmod and ath_pci does come out.

Do I need to remove the module for my intel 4965 wireless card? I'd like to have them both loaded if possible. What should I do?

One question, if I wanted to run a command at startup, what file would I edit?

    Thanks.

Well the madwifi drivers come in backtrack already so I'm not to sure why your installing them. This may fix your issue. use this driver instead.

    http://www.offensive-security.com/madwifi.tgz

open the archive do a make && make install and then reboot. After that do modprobe ath_pci and you should be good.

when I tar -xvf the madwifi.tgz file it extracts 3 folders:

    usr, install, and lib

in which folder do I run make $$ make install?

I've tried in all and it says target is missing.

Do I need to do a make install KERNELPATH=/usr/src/linux-2.6xxx ?

Also, in BT3 when I slide in my ubiquiti src 300 express card into the slot, is it supposed to automatically detect it?

Also, what was that .0 interface in my ifconfig right below my eth0?

I installed the module and ran modprobe MODULE. The module ath_pci and ath_hal come out on lsmod.

How do I know that it's working? I mean when I run iwconfig, all it shows is wlan0 which is my internel intel 4965 wireless card. I run ifconfig and all I get are the regular eth0 and lo devices. Shouldn't there be an ath0 device as well?

I got a feeling that my Ubiquiti SRC 300 might be a dud. Contacted customer support.

    Why assume it didn't work
    There is no error message

Yeah true, it just happened so fast hehe. Anyhow, I did

    modprobe ath_pci

iwconfig and ifconfig and it didn't come out, only eth0 and wlan0, my two internal cards. If it worked, then I'd see an ath0 in those outputs? I have a feeling this ubiquiti is a dud.

I installed it it windows xp and the install utility prompted me saying that the card wasn't in the express slot even tho it was. Then once the install finished, I ran the network utility that came with it and there was no activity and all the options were greyed out. I had disabled my other internal intel 4965 wireless in the ncpa.cpl screen. Anyhow, I emailed customer support to see what they had to say.
