    Default AWUS050NH compat-wireless causing failed b43

    I recently got a AWUS050NH and out-of-the-box it only was able to monitor on channel 1 (common problem I hear). I was able to get it working properly following a tutorial here hxxp://forum.aircrack-ng.org/index.php?topic=5755.0. Although, I am finding that having compat-wireless installed causes the b43 module to fail to properly load. I have tested and if I uninstall using "make uninstall", b43 works fine after.

    When attempted to "modprobe b43"....
    FATAL: Error inserting b43 (/lib/modules/2.6.30.9/updates/drivers/net/wireless/b43/b43.ko): Unknown symbol in module, or unknown parameter (see dmesg)
    "dmesg | grep b43" returns this..........
    b43-pci-bridge 0000:06:02.0: PCI INT A -> GSI 22 (level, low) -> IRQ 22
    b43: Unknown symbol ssb_bus_pcmciabus_register

    When I looked at buying that card, Im pretty sure I remember the card not using the b43 drivers, but a ralink driver like RT2800?? You may have to blacklist the b43 if its getting in the way.

    Oh my mistake I should have elaborated more. I was able to successfully get the AWUS050NH to work, with both the rt2800usb drivers and rt2870sta drivers. The issue I was having here was that after compat-wireless is installed the b43 drivers are the ones that experience this issue.

    I have been testing for awhile and seem to find that compat-wireless drivers for b43 (which it replaces Backtrack ones) are flawed in some way. Every machine I have test which runs b43 comes up with this same error after compat-wireless is installed. Still trying to understand loading the older original Backtrack drivers while keeping compat-wireless installed as well.

    From the command line, before you boot into X
    rmmod b43
    echo “blacklist b43” | sudo tee -a /etc/modprobe.d/blacklist
    then reboot

    Well all that does it blacklist b43 so it won't load. What I am trying to do is get the rt2800usb driver to load (that is installed with compat-wireless) and b43 to load together at the same time. I believe that compat-wireless is replacing the b43 driver with a incompatible one and causes it to fail to load with the error I mention in the first post.
