Hello, I was wondering if someone can recommend me a wireless card that is around $100-$150 dollars? I am new to wireless penetration and I have a netgear wg511t. It doesn't work well with backtrack. Does anyone have any recommendations for a good wireless card for $100- $150 or maybe a wireless card/antenna combo? I want to get a good card because I may work as an intern at a IT department in a company. At age 15 that would look good on my resume![]()

http://forums.remote-exploit.org/showthread.php?t=2191 There's a lot of useful info in this thread.

After my research here I have found and ordered the following from ebay;
however, my hardware hasn't helped my resume at all. ;-)
Linksys Wrt54g-TM / Wrt54gl DD-wrt W/ Heatsink
7dBi Dual 10' RP-TNC Antennas
Linksys Wusb54GC USB Network Adapter
500 mW Alfa USB Adapter w/ 8 dBi antenna kit http://backtrack.offensive-security....works_AWUS036H
I don't have these devices yet, so I can't 100 percent say that they
will work, or how hard it will be to configure them.
Hopefully, others will confirm these devices for you, or add to the list.
I use the same card as you & I have done wonders with it I have no problems at all with it, however if you are wanting to expand your searches, you can check HCL Wireless
Well the reason why I want to get a new card is because I can't get airpwn to work. I made a thread, but its still not working.

Are you able to use airpwn with the card? Also, I have the problem when I do a fake auth after a couple of minutes I get kicked off.

NetGear WG511T
* Driver : Madwifi-ng
* Chipset : Atheros
* Notes: Works with Backtrack, (out of the box).
Supports all current Aireplay-NG features
I see that it says it supposed to work for airpwn. When I run airpwn I can't set the channel because I keep getting an error. Here is what it says in my terminal
I've tried every driver that airpwn lists and none of them worked. I got that problem or Segmentation fault.Code:bt ~ # airpwn -c /conf/xss_attack -i ath0 -d madwifing -v -v -v Parsing configuration file.. Opening command socket.. Opening monitor socket.. It looks like you already know more than I do, because I don't even know what a airpwn is; however, if I wanted to know what it is, I would look at the manual.
bt / # man airpwn
There you may see the web site that supports it.
<http://airpwn.sourceforge.net>
There you will see an example of the command
airpwn -i ath0raw -d madwifi -c conf/airpwned_img -v
Secondly, you could and should always.
Google airpwn............
(Do you want to know why, because that the hard way; and thats how we all learned ;-)
"I know, that frustrates me too; lol"
Third, tell us that you have tried other commands like aireplay, and if the commands worked, or not, please.
Fourth, After your successful, and have used the command for a while come back here and lets us know. What was not working, and how you fixed it. Since you google it and there wasn't a tutorial on it, I would be nice if you would also come back and write a tutorial showing what airpwn would do "on your system".
I have only used linux for two weeks; I have also found that you will get a better response in the newbie area for, "I need help" questions.
I think that is because they don't want the whole site to be
overwhemed with "I need help"
I truly hope this helps,

Hello all, I'm also thinking about buying a new card. An Alfa AWUS036H, and I was wondering the same. Will this card work with airpwn?
I saw that lorcon supports RTL8180, so does it support RTL8187L as derivative just like on HCL:Wireless page uses RT8180 to make it work with kismet?
Thank you
