Are you setting up to write some new drivers? I can see my AWUS036H shivering with anticipation.

The code shows several individuals and companies as authors of various bits, including Andrea Merello apparently as the sole author of the 8187-specific code. Not sure about all of the authors though due to gems like this:
/* IEEE 802.11 SoftMAC layer
* Copyright (c) 2005 Andrea Merello <andreamrl@tiscali.it>
*
* Mostly extracted from the rtl8180-sa2400 driver for the
* in-kernel generic ieee802.11 stack.
*
* Some pieces of code might be stolen from ipw2100 driver
* copyright of who own it's copyright ;-)
*
* PS wx handler mostly stolen from hostap, copyright who
* own it's copyright ;-)
*
* released under the GPL
*/
Anyway, Merello gives thanks to Realtek for assistance, but it's not clear what kind of assistance she or the other authors got. Did they have full access to the specs, or did they have to reverse engineer any of it?
If Realtek doesn't divulge full specs, are there any companies that do?
