iwconfig does not work with the 'up' command - you will need to use ifconfig for this.
What is the output of ifconfig -a
(this will show all available interfaces regardless of if they are up or down).
Hello,
Same problems most people have been having with the iwl4965.
aireplay-ng freezes keyboard.
When i took the advice to:
modprobe -r iwl4965
modprobe ipwraw
It merely makes my card disappear beyond all recognition of my system.
bt ~ # ifconfig

iwconfig:

Then i try:
bt ~ # iwconfig wifi0 up
Error : unrecognised wireless request "up"
bt ~ # iwconfig wlan0 up
Error : unrecognised wireless request "up"
bt ~ # ifconfig wlan1 up
wlan1: ERROR while getting interface flags: No such device

It really isn't there.
Has someone been through what i have?
It's so frustrating as my brand new ALFA card doesn't work because it's special double usb power/data cable is broke somewhere and disconnects when you slightly move it.
Ah.. nightmare.

Hi, i have tried all the ifconfig possibilities too.. they don't work same error.
my card has disappears from the system when i use those drivers
Use the Backtrack wiki fix for the IPW menu bug posted by Purehate.
That will give you the ability to turn on and turn off the IPW4965 for managed/monitor capability ONLY.
No injection is possible with the IPW4965.
Ollz,
I would bet an Atheros wireless pcmcia card that the capability will be there at some point.
Whether we will be pleasantly surprised during the Beta testing, or after the final BT3 comes out, or six months from now......it will be just like a Christmas present.
I see already in airodump-ng monitor mode that the IPW4965 picks up more APs and with very high signal levels.......than my other six wireless cards or usb dongles.

Hey!
Actually being a 4965 agn (draft 1) owner, I asked Intel support back in may/june 2007.
They replied by email and they assured me all Intel's hardware support packet injection.
The only reason why it would not is "drivers" related...
Since then, i never injected anything I was hoping Backtrack3 beta will fix that lack!!!
For now i tried the test aireplay-ng -9 wlan0 but its crashed and block my whole backtrack3 beta USB!
I just read yesterday that a native IPW4965 driver with injection capability will be part of the 2.6.23 kernel.
So hang on.....it is coming.
nice
looking forward to it.
Is there a way to make Intel 4965 do injections then with Aireplay? It freezes my keyboard when I use Aireplay.
Kernel 2.6.23 was released 18 december. Should this fix the problem? How do we install?
