Cool Need Helping Understanding Install...will it work on XP?

    Hi guys,

I've read all the intro documents and pdf s and still am unsure of a few things.

    A. If I try to install backtrack, will it really wipe everything off my harddrive?

I've downloaded the iso file, and written it to a disk, but how do i install it on my hardrive without erasing all my other files?

Isn't there an easy GUI application to do this?

Also, I am running windows xp pro....will it work?

Can anyone explain how to do this in simple step by step?

    Thanks

    Tom

Hello, and welcome to the forums. One thing to remember, the internet gods like the Lawnmower Man and others help those that help themselves.

You can help yourself by searching out the answer to your questions by using the search tool that's included on this and many other forums that you may run across. Searching for keywords like "dual boot" and maybe "WinXP" would probably return the best results.

Who knows, you may even run across a video by someone named "muts" that explains exactly how to do this.
A third party security audit is the IT equivalent of a colonoscopy. It's long, intrusive, very uncomfortable, and when it's done, you'll have seen things you really didn't want to see, and you'll never forget that you've had one.

Streaker hit the nail on the head.

In case you are confused still, you might want to check out google. Its amazing, really.

And so is the backtrack wiki

    Default BT wiki video

the BT2 wiki has a video that is step by step, has a transcript for you copy and pasters, and is oddly soothing due to the british accent of the guy narrating. go there, follow the steps, reboot, done. peace
