Unhappy Install problem, using cp cd method from video

I've been trying to install for a while and tried a few different methods, when I try to follow the instructions from backtrack.offensive-security.com/index.php?title=Transcript_of_movie
    when I copy everything (cp --preserve -R /{bin,dev,home,pentest,root,usr,etc,lib,opt,sbin,va r} /mnt/backtrack/)
I get a few or a lot of errors that look like this
cp: cannot open '/usr/some path or file in lib or share' for reading: Input/Output error
can anyone tell me what this means or what I'm doing wrong?

sorry that's a typo, when I tried it I didn't have a space in var, but it doesn't make it that far anyway it hangs up whil copying usr with all those errors and never finishes.

Only thing I can suggest is to delete all the partitions you created and start over. Make sure you have a hda drive and not a sda..if you have a sda ..you'll need to replace hda with sda, sda1..etc. follow the video for a good look at whats happening. Could help you as far as seeing whats going on.

got it to work thought I post here incase anyone had a similar problem, that error was a disk error, in my case a physical problem on the hard drive but I think it could be on the cd with the same error message, I follow the video instructions except when partitioning instead of having my root partition use the default next block moved it to the end of the hd by starting at a later block, then when configuring lilo left the windows part out (I don't use windows) and added append="acpi=off", because I have to boot with that parameter.
