Can't find my wireless networkcard with backtrack
Hey!
I am a uber newbie to linux and I just got my first laptop from school.
It is an dell inspiron 1520 and the networkcard is Intel 4965AGN.
I have tried everything I have found in this forum maybe I do the wrong way I don't know.
The problem is that backtrack isn't finding the card.
I have written ifconfig the two connection is found one that is named eth0 and lo after that I write iwconfig, then it says "no wireless extensions" on both eth0 and lo.
Great regards

Try this
and you should see your card
-
When I write ifconfig -a it shows eth0 and lo it doesn't tell me anything about my networkcard what I can see.
It says
eth0 Link encap: Ethernet
lo link encap: local loopback
that is the big difference what I can see.
cheers for the fast reply

That is a draft N card, which has almost no support at all.
There is hope, however it is small.
You need to update to the latest version of aircrack-ng 1.0 dev, then you can use airdriver-ng to install a driver.
The instructions to use airdriver are here, ignore that it says that it is not available till a future release.
What functionality you will get, I have no idea, it could be none, but then you could get everything. You will just have to try and see.
That is the best I could find.

Then iwl4965
