WEP Cracking

Hello guys.

i'm trying to do an "WEP Cracking" with:
airodump + aireplay + aircrack.

it's all good, but i'm getting something about
25.000 unique IV's per hour. in this rate, i'll
crack the KEY in about 28 hours ,a very long time.

i tryed to execute
"aireplay-ng --deauth"
"aireplay-ng --arpreplay" , etc..

but nothing significant happend, i'm still getting about 25.000 unique IV's per hour.

something to do in order to speed up the proccess?

Another problem.
my sound device is not working any more.
yesterday, i did "shut" the computer with the power button.
and since then, there is no sound.

Did you try having another client connect to the network and generate traffic?

1)Your problem maybe related to antenna diversity, read this http://madwifi.org/wiki/UserDocs/AntennaDiversity

2) You maybe are to far from the Access point, what power reading do you get?

Finally, you only need 5 thousands .cap to crack 128-bit WEP and less to crack a 64-bit nowadays with aircrack-ptw; (-z) option from Aircrack 0.9.1.

Well, first of all - i'm very close to the AP

Regarding to the "5 thousands .cap to crkack 128-bit", do you
mean 5 thousands of IV's? if so, i tested it 2 hours ago with
10.000 IV's , with Aircrkack-ng (0.9.1 ver) -z, and the result is
"Failed, try with 15.000 ivs".

Did you try having another client connect to the network and generate traffic?

There is one client that connected to the AP continuous , and it
generate some few packets.

I did not understand what you say about "having another client".
Did you mean having another wifi-card on my laptop that
generate more replaies/traffic?

yes, having another wireless client connected to generate arp's.
for me its 40,000 for 128 and 20,000 for 64bit.
first you should tell us what card you have, make/model.
what commands used etc..

and it realy speed-up the proccess.
within 15 minutes i had 16.370 IV's and it founds the 64 bit WEP KEY

but! there is a problem.
2 miniutes after it founds the key, i tried to run "aircrack" again on the same
.cap file, with no succees!

why is that?

It is not an exact science, 5k 2M, sometimes you just have to run it again, it just depends on how lucky you were that time.

Oh and 15 mins is really slow for that many ivs
