    Cool RT3070 FIXED! AWUS036NH and AWUS036NEH ALFA

In some cases we've seen cards using the rt2800usb drivers (such as the AWUS036NH and AWUS036NEH ALFAs) act strange with the BT5R1 kernel. If this happens to you, you can try installing a recent compat-wireless and building it on your own. This specific version will work:

    without card connected.
    Steps:

    root@bt:~# ln -s /usr/src/linux /lib/modules/2.6.39.4/build
    root@bt:~# cd/usr/src/
    root@bt:~# wget http://linuxwireless.org/download/co...-07-14.tar.bz2
    root@bt:~# tar jxpf compat-wireless-2011-07-14.tar.bz2
    root@bt:~# wget http://www.backtrack-linux.org/2.6.39.patches.tar
    root@bt:~# tar xpf 2.6.39.patches.tar
    root@bt:~# cd compat-wireless-2011-07-14
    root@bt:~# patch -p1 < ../patches/mac80211-2.6.29-fix-tx-ctl-no-ack-retry-count.patch
    root@bt:~# patch -p1 < ../patches/mac80211.compat08082009.wl_frag+ack_v1.patch
    root@bt:~# patch -p1 < ../patches/zd1211rw-2.6.28.patch
    root@bt:~# patch -p1 < ../patches/ipw2200-inject.2.6.36.patch
    root@bt:~# make
    root@bt:~# make install
    root@bt:~# modprobe rt2800usb

    Conect your wireless card

    ....... source BTR1!

We can added the modprobe rt2800usb to start automatically

    steps:

    nano /etc/rc.local

put: modprobe rt2800usb without #, save and reload!

The next time that you start BT5R1 rt2800usb start automatically and you can work without problems.

After used several time BT5R1 don't work again, I don't know what happened, but I reinstalled BT5R1 like 5 times and update it , don't work more my AWUS036NEH with rt3070.

Now I installed WifiWay 2 and the ALFA CARD works FINE!, maybe WifiWay are the best choice for people that have AWUS036NEH with RT3070 (rt2800usb).

I expect an update soon from BT team.

Exactly same situation here. I trying to use my new ALFA card AWUS036NEH on BT5 and BT5r1. The older card ALFA AWUS036H (without n) has been working great.

Even after loading the driver and patch as per the wiki article here AWUS036NEH hasn't worked. It worked intermittently when I unloaded the driver rt2800usb and loaded rt2870sta. But it just stopped working after a while for no reason. (It's not with processes, I kill all that are using wlan0). Numerous attempts to load/unoad and restarts didnt help.

    Code:
    root@bt:~# rmmod rt2800usb
    root@bt:~# modprobe rt2870sta

    root@bt:~# lsusb

Bus 001 Device 001: ID 1d6b:0002 Linux Foundation 2.0 root hub

    root@bt:~# lsmod | grep rt28
    rt2870sta 418826 1
    crc_ccitt 1281 1 rt2870sta

    root@bt:~# iwconfig

    root@bt:~# airmon-ng start wlan0

    root@bt:~# aireplay-ng -9 wlan0

    13:04:28 0/30: 0%
It works for a while, but stops after some time.

If I remove rt2870sta and load rt2800usb it doesn't work at all and the only difference is the monitor mode interfaces will me mon0, mon1.. instead of wlan0 itself.

Another interesting thing is, airmon-ng mentions the chipset as 'AR9001/9002/9271' instead of RT2870/3070 (see code above). Not sure if this is a problem.

    Appreciate any help.
    Thanks.

I'm having the same problem. I got half of it working from the linux drivers that came with their Alfa CD and I think the other half of it from what the direction said in in the BT5 wiki page... But I don't know if it's very stable or not.... It would be great if someone from BT5_R1 drivers support would take a look at it... I would greatly like to get this working in BT than using a third part (AirUbuntu) to get the thing going.

will this work on bt5r2? just upgraded, then 2 days later received my awus036nh in the mail. and i'm not one of the fortunate ones that have it working right out of the box. i can get aireplay to create mon0 from wlan0, but injection tests fail. AP is 10ft away..
tried looking for info on this topic related to kernel 3.2.6 #1. but so far can not find much. any help would be great.
    thanks

Have you tried loading these? My 036NH is working fine for me after I loaded those drivers.

    Greetings,
I recently open a thread talking about this wifi adapter - http://www.backtrack-linux.org/forum...lfa+AWUS036NEH

Today I did a fresh install of BT5R1, and still no luck.

I tried the same thing... it did not work.
ALFA AWUS036NH only find wifi networks from time to time.
Funny thing is that awus036nh works in BT4R2 GNOME every time!!!

Does anyone know how to make awus036nh work in BT5R3 in VirtualBox????
I believe problem is not in drivers but in way BT is seeing USB modules.. and possibly because "/etc/init.d/networking " has something to do with it.
In BT4R2 networking is at boot down in BT5 is up... maybe thats why it works in BT4R2 BUT not BT5R3

If anyone made awus036nh to work please let me know. Thank you!
