tor + proxychains

hello, i'm having troubles with tor... At first I started by typing "proxychains firefox whatismyipwebsite" and it did nothing did not mask my address... then i tried manually changing the socks in firefox's network connections still nothing. So i assumed tor wasnt installed... i tried to install it and the process of things i think i broke my tor install... how can I fix this? and what am i doing wrong. Tor button is unavailable in firefox 4.0.1 so that is why i was trying proxychains

I would greatly appreciate that as well. I'm familiar that I can use proxychains with command line apps like so "proxychains nmap 127.0.0.1" and it will reroute through tor if configuring properly. Where does squid come in?
EDIT: Also are there any major differences between, dsocks, torsocks, tsocks, and proxychains

Btw there is no need to setup privoxy because the install of tor comes with polipo "which is the same thing", you just need to set it up properly. Also unless the user removes it from startup its set to be running everytime.

Been awile but i think it would be more like "proxychains nmap -sT -P0 -n -p 80,8080 ipnotdnshere"

Also are there any major differences between, dsocks, torsocks, tsocks, and proxychains

tsocks intercepts the calls applications make to establish TCP connections and transparently proxies them as necessary

torsocks allows you to use most socks-friendly applications in a safe way with tor

proxychains lets you tunnel most anything over most any proxy, can switch up the proxys randomly, and is in general just more universal

i think my first reply got removed
ok, so i was reading and decided to do the following Chain
Browser -> Privoxy -> Polipo -> tor

but can't seem to get the configuration right
i put forward / localhost:8123 in privoxy config insted of forward-socks5 / 127.0.0.1:9050 .

set my browser proxy setting to go to port 8118

and in the Polipo config i was suppose to put no parent, but can't seem to figure out where


Any help is appreciated

I see no need for having tor in a penetration testing distro. Neither do the other developers. Hence the reason it was removed.
