Hi All,
My problem here is I cannot see the Wireless USB on BT4 R2 through VMWare
My setup is ;
Mac Book Pro 15, MAC OSX 10.6.5, VMWare Fusion 3.1.2. I have a ALFA AWUS036NH wireless usb adapter. BT4 R2 loaded onto VMWare. I'm using the latest kernel 2.6.35.8. I have installed and built the latest Compat-Wireless-2010-12-16. As suggested i'm using rt2800usb driver. However i have selected NAT for networking in VMWare. I can see a flashing blue light on my Wireless USB adapter. But when I try to select "Ralink Connect 802.11 n WLAN" on the VMWARE status bar, everything just locks up and the only remedy is to reboot. Can anyone tell me what I'm doing wrong.
Thanks in advance for your kind cooperation.
BT Noob..!!!

what do you mean by connect it through vmware ?
What I am doing is, i run vmware fusion backtrack and then connect the cable. alfa starts on linux first then I click on connect usb device on vmware and then it disconnects from mac os but does not start in backtrack ?
Now would be a grate time to start giving more information, like lsusb, used commands, did you start the network, etc.

modprobe [your USB driver name}
Ifconfig (interface name)
Iwconfig
airmon-ng
airmon-ng start [interface name]
The problem is, it is not recognising it all ! The green leds start running continuously it does not turn itself off anymore and iwconfig, ifconfig, nothing finds the card. I tried it with Parallels which is a similar software like vmware but same thing happens. Whenever I click the button to connect it to linux, the green led runs permanently..

lsusb is not showing the card either. It could not find the the attached alfa wifi card. Now the blue led on the card is constantly on which sounds like hardware failure. But when i use that card on vmware installed on windows xp, everything is alright. Just vmware fusion with linux sucks now![]()
