I use live cd bt4 final. When i try to check of dBi of my alfa i see 27dBi(500mW). I tried to use txpower. Wont work(maybe i use bad command?). And how change the options for the card for use other drivers with aircrack-ng suite(if this help go to 1W).
And next question its really give me more powerful in access to the long ranged AP? 3 dBi not so big. But 500mW plus yes?

well raising the tx power will only let you transmit farther, it won't help you receive anything. Why don't you move closer to the access point or get a better antenna..like this one Antenna: 9dBi omni combined w/magnetic base w/cable to RP-SMA(male): Alfa

Yes this not give more sensitivity but more power for data transfer from computer to AP and injection(from500mW to 1W).
And about antenna. I was thinking about it before. And maybe i gonna buy it next month.

Actually, it's 27 dBm. A 27 dBi reading would be an antenna gain reading (decibels referenced to an isotrophic source).

A reading of 27 dBm is 27 decibels referenced to one milliwatt.

Still it`s a mute point, okay maybe you can inject into the AP further, but you wont hear the replies. Raising tx power alone really doesn't do much for anyone unless your using the card to broadcast.

Starting with the rtl8187_2.6.24v3.patch, there is a iwpriv “highpower” setting you need to set to “1” in order to increase the txpower over the default value.

To enable high power:

iwpriv wlan0 highpower 1

To disable high power:

iwpriv wlan0 highpower 0

pls use:

iwconfig wlan0 txpower <value of 0 to 35>

iwconfig wlan0 txpower 30

30 = dbm = 1000 mW
