Unhappy Trying to run BT4 final in a Windows Virtual PC enviroment

When I type in startx to boot into the GUI, I get errors and then it just goes back to the command prompt. Can anybody help? It boots in VirtualBox, but I'd rather use Virtual PC..

I am on an MSI Wind U100, running Windows 7 Ultimate.

These are the aforementioned errors: -

    1:01: invalid checksum 0x89

X: warning; process set to priority -1 instead of 0

    Fatal server error:
    AddScreen/ScreenInit failed for driver 0

    giving up.
xinit: Connection refused (errno 111): unable to connect to X server
xinit: No such process (errno 3): Server error.[/COLOR]

Please do not egregiously add color to your posts. This makes it hard for others to see (white text and white background) and possibly help you.

I apologise, it seems my browser made a mistake with the preview pane.. Then I couldn't even get back to my post after until now, dunno why.

Thanks, I shall look at this guide and let you know how I get on.

I may in the near future dual boot BT4 with my 7 install, what would be the best way to do this? Baring in mind I have no DVD drive on this machine..

Okay the guide you linked me to had no information I didn't already have, that I could get to. However there was a dead link in it, so I wasn't able to access the bits about once you get to the boot screen.

I don't know why I can't get it working in Virtual PC.. It runs in VirtualBox more or less perfectly.. I believe there may be a compatibility issue with my graphics chip, and perhaps VB works around that.. I'm not sure..

But I am now starting to find this very tedious, I've never had any problems in the past with Linux in virtual machines.. I'm rather interested in BT4, so I won't give up.. Is there any way to install it over a network? Because I'll dual boot if I have to..

You may have already found this or chosen another method but in case you haven't or someone else stumbles across this thread...

To get X running you need to use the command 'fixvesa' before 'startx'.

And the broken link in the guide linked above should point to:
Backtrack 4 Final Installation in VMware with VMware tools

Once I found the fixvesa command setting up BT4 in Virtual PC was easy and so far seems to run fine.

I am glad that I actually searched the posts before asking this very same question. Your suggestion worked for me as well. Thanks!
