You say you can't open one, but you give no information about the steps you've taken or the information or error messages you receive in response to your attempts.
Here the deal... I have used Bt3 before but never could open up a shell with the live cd... So i quit using it... Now im wanting to get back into using it again and thus far still cant open a shell.... Can some one please help out with this and tell me what im doing wrong??? Again, i have bt4 live cd and the operating system on my computer is windows 7....

maybe you mean 'a terminal' console? you can run it from start button and select from accessories menu.
You used BT3 without opening a shell? EPIC FAIL, anyhow I leave you with this
Sometimes I try to fit a 16-character string into an 8–byte space, on purpose.
Maybe it's useful to tell how you are using BT4 live CD together with your windows 7. Normally, when you start a live CD (which means booting from it) then it's no matter what kinda OS you have on the HD.
So did you manage to pass the noob hurdle and enter username and password?
And then startx????
And then opening a terminal???????
