    Default Locating USB wireless dongle in /dev

    Hello,

    I am trying to locate a netgear wg111v2 usb wireless dongle under /dev. I first section of text copied from the terminal is before the usb is inserted, and the second section is after. Backtrack 4 is detecting the dongle and I can see wireless networks using the network manager.

    Not sure what your goal is here, with the /dev list? Are you just trying to find out what device your supposed to use?

    Sorry round out of characters and didn't finish the post.

    I ran "ls attr" in /dev, in Backtrack 4 and got usbdev1.5_ep00, usbdev1.5_ep01, usbdev1.5_ep02 etc, after the usb was inserted. I am trying to work out why the dongle doesn't mount as ttyUSB0, which can be used with apps like gpsd?

    Because it is a Wifi adapter. I think you are looking for a serial interface (tty) that can talk to a GPS. These usually have a 9 pin d-sub or just a straight USB cable that connect to the GPS unit. That is what GPSD is looking for.

    To plot wifi like I think you are trying to do, you need a wifi adapter and a GPS with serial/usb interface.
