I think a more appropriate response would have been for an SNMP monitoring tool. Possibly cacti and the like.
Nmap can't tell you where clients are connected, what switch ports and the like. There is another tool which has escaped me, it has a terrible interface but it does pretty damned well where I've implemented it. If someone can remember it, I know it's been mentioned... hangon. Netdisco
